What AI integration for WordPress and web apps means
AI integration means connecting a language model to your own site, content, or workflow so it does one specific job reliably: answering visitor questions from your pages, triaging inquiries, drafting for human review, or automating a routine back-office step. I build these as scoped features on WordPress, WooCommerce, and Next.js, with the model, the data it can see, and its limits all decided up front.
What my AI integration work covers
- Grounded site assistant. A chat or search assistant that answers only from your pages, products, or documents, shows its sources, and hands the conversation to a person when it is not sure.
- Workflow automation. Lead qualification, support triage, and order or content operations, connected through your site’s APIs and tools such as n8n, with a human approving anything consequential.
- AI-assisted editorial tooling. Alt text, summaries, and internal-link or schema suggestions inside the WordPress editor, drafted by the model and approved by your editors.
- AI search readiness. Making sure your site can be found, crawled, and cited by Google’s AI features and AI assistants. This is its own scoped piece of work: the AI search visibility audit.
- White-label delivery for agencies. The same work under your brand for your clients, as part of white-label WordPress development.
How I keep AI integration safe and controllable
- Grounding. Answers come from content you approve, with sources shown, rather than from the model’s memory.
- Human handoff. Low-confidence or sensitive questions go to a person with the conversation attached.
- Spend caps and logs. A hard monthly limit on model usage, and conversation logs you can review.
- Privacy. I check each provider’s current data terms (API data is generally excluded from model training by default, but terms differ and change) and write the data flow into the project scope. Consent and cookie handling follow your existing setup.
- Fallbacks. If the model or provider is unavailable, the rest of the site keeps working.
When AI integration is the wrong answer
If a plugin covers the job, I will say so. A packaged chatbot plugin is often enough for a small brochure site with a short FAQ. Custom work earns its cost when answers must come from your own catalog or documents, when the feature has to connect to your systems, when you need control over data and spend, or when it is part of a larger Next.js or headless WordPress build.
How an AI integration project runs
- Discovery call. One job, one success measure, and what the feature must never do.
- Scoped pilot. A fixed-scope first version on a limited set of content, with a written scope and a usage cap.
- Measure. Real conversations or tasks are reviewed against the success measure before anything expands.
- Extend or stop. Sources, channels, or automation are added only where the pilot earned it. An optional retainer covers monitoring and tuning.
Which models and tools I use
I choose the model per job instead of locking you in. It can be Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini, paired with the retrieval layer, WordPress REST API endpoints, Next.js routes, and automation tooling that suit your hosting. Whatever runs on your WordPress site stays maintainable by your team after handoff. If you are weighing a bigger architecture decision first, a WordPress consultant engagement can settle it before any build starts.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from an AI chatbot plugin?
A plugin gives you a generic assistant quickly and cheaply. A custom integration is built around your own content and systems, shows sources, hands off to a person, caps spend, and fits your data and privacy requirements. If a plugin is enough, I will recommend it.
Will the AI make things up?
Any language model can be wrong. I reduce the risk by grounding answers in approved content, showing sources, setting the assistant to say it is not sure and hand off, and reviewing real conversations during the pilot. I do not promise zero errors; I design around the cost of one.
Is my content or customer data used to train AI models?
Major providers generally exclude API data from training by default, but terms differ and change. I check the current terms for the provider we choose and record the data flow in the project scope.
Can you add AI to an existing WordPress or WooCommerce site without a rebuild?
Usually yes. Most features connect through WordPress REST endpoints, a small plugin or theme module, or an external service, without changing your design or editor workflow.
What does an AI integration project cost?
It depends on the job, the data sources, and the systems involved. After a discovery call I scope a fixed-price pilot with a usage cap, so model costs stay predictable.
Do you work with agencies?
Yes. I deliver AI features under your brand for your clients, under NDA, as part of white-label WordPress development.
